Unix Support Manager

Sun Solaris, Linux, preferably Red Hat, Veritas, Team Lead Experience

Department Overview

The US UNIX support team consists of 7 staff and is responsible for providing 2nd and 3rd line support for the firm's global UNIX estate.

Main Function

Unix team manager to effectively run the team and provide support and project delivery to the firm's Unix/Linux infrastructure.

Main Duties - Unix team manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day running of the team
  • Monitor the performance of staff
  • Report progress to management
  • Liaise with application support and development teams to provide world class support
  • Involved in resolution of incidents and outages
  • Deliver major projects such as data center build out
  • Manage vendor relationships

Person Requirements - The candidate should possess the following skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Sun Solaris and the Sun SPARC hardware range
  • Excellent knowledge of Veritas File system, Volume Manager and Cluster products
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Excellent knowledge of VMware ESX
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Extensive experience managing a support team
  • Manage proactive maintenance programmes
  • Prioritise workload and monitor deliverables
  • Strong investment banking experience
